Nymphalidae

This family contains about 7250 species, making it the most diverse family of butterflies.Approximately 42% of species are neotropical. The systematic study of this family is still incomplete and therefore its classification is uncertain at the level of subfamilies.This family is recognized because males have only 4 legs because  the first pair is atrophied or reduced, transformed into a pair of brushes.
